MERRILLVILLE – The University of Phoenix is offering a nine-month, 18-credit transition to teaching certificate beginning in July at its Northwest Indiana campus, 8401 Ohio St. The class is for those who already have a degree in another field and want to teach at the secondary level.
“The university has established agreements with a number of regional school districts,” said Jennifer Khadivar, associate campus director. Those districts include Portage, East Chicago, Hammond, Merrillville, South Newton and three charter schools.
Teachers are Karla VanWinkle, principal at East Chicago Freshman Center, and Trishann Parrish, an English and language arts teacher at Grimmer Middle School in Schererville.
