GARY — Summer Food Service Program will begin June 15th in Lake County, Indiana; as part of the national initiative sponsored by the USDA. More than a dozen sites will be open in Lake County this summer. The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, in partnership with the USDA and site locations will serve more than 650 children daily.

Children under the age of 18 are welcome to a cold breakfast and a hot lunch, Monday through Friday throughout the summer months. The program ends August 7th in most locations. Each location varies with time and start date. Families interested in the program should contact the nearest site for more information.

“A number of families in our community rely on the free or reduced-price school lunch program from August to June. What happens when school lets out for summer? The Summer Food Service Program allows us to provide nutritious meals to vulnerable children in our community,” stated Arleen Peterson, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.
