Highland-based Strack & Van Til recently started a register round up campaign to help communities impacted by hurricanes.
Customers at all Strack & Van Til stores can round up their purchases to the nearest dollar during checkout at the register. All donations will go to the American Red Cross to help individuals and families affected by the hurricanes. The register round up will continue through Oct. 27.
“Strack & Van Til is committed to supporting communities in need,” said Jeff Strack, Strack & Van Til president, in a press release. “We know our customers are just as concerned as we are about those impacted by these devastating hurricanes, and this is one way we can help those who need assistance as quickly as possible.”
In addition to rounding up at the register, people can assist the American Red Cross by:
- Volunteering. The nonprofit organization is in need of trained volunteers to help with sheltering, health services and other urgent needs.
- Donating blood. During natural disasters such as hurricanes, blood banks in the impacted areas receive fewer blood and platelet donations.
- Donating funds. Individuals can also make a financial donation directly to the American Red Cross by mail, phone or online.
Strack & Van Til is a grocery and fresh food store. In 1959, Ernie Strack and Nick Van Til opened the first store in the grocery chain in Highland. Prior to joining forces, they each owned separate grocery stores in Northwest Indiana. Today, Strack & Van Til has stores throughout Northwest Indiana and Illinois.
