A total of $380,000 in grants was award by the state to the Franciscan Health Foundation to put toward youth tobacco use prevention and to help current users kick the habit.
The Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Commission at the Indiana State Department of Health approved a $300,000 grant to renew the Franciscan foundation as the lead agency for the Tobacco Prevention Coalition in Lake County for the next two years.
In Montgomery County, an $80,000 grant will go toward the creation of a Tobacco Prevention Coalition with the Franciscan foundation as the lead agency.
Miranda Spitznagle, director of the Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Commission, in a letter to the Franciscan foundation said the state’s partnership with Franciscan, “is critical to Indiana’s statewide strategy to prevent youth tobacco use, helping tobacco users quit, and increasing smoke free environments in Hoosier communities to create a healthier Indiana.”
