St Mary Medical Center Annual Pap-a-thon EventPORTAGE – St. Mary Medical Center will offer free pap tests and health screenings at the Portage Health Center II on Saturday, April 28. The St Mary Medical Center annual Pap-a-thon event helps to support uninsured or underinsured women in the community.

Pap tests are an important screening tool for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer. Many women who are uninsured or underinsured may postpone this important test that can help to detect cancer in its early stages.

Part of the Community Healthcare System, Community Care Network certified nurse midwives and nurse practitioners will be present at the event to conduct screenings. Physician referrals will be available for women who do not have a primary care physician. The Pap-a-thon also features bone-density screenings, body composition testing, certified bra fittings and chair massages. Light refreshments will be available as well as opportunities for door prizes.

Pre-registration is required for pap tests, which are available on a first-come, first served basis. Call 219-836-3477 or 866-836-3477 to register. Portage Health Center II is located at 3545 Arbors Blvd., across US Route 6 from Portage High School.
