MISHAWAKA – St. Joseph Regional Medical Center has announced that physicians Truc Ly and Michael Savitt has St. Joseph Cardiothoracic Surgery are the first surgeons in the Michiana area to use the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System for a thoracic procedure.

It was used on Dec. 10 to perform a pulmonary wedge resection, or a surgical procedure in which tissue from the lung was removed from a patient with fibrotic pulmonary disease.

“The da Vinci System dramatically enhances visualization of the operative site and more precisely mimics the complex movements of the hand and wrist,” said Truc Ly.
