EAST CHICAGO – Amanda Arredondo, a registered nurse at St. Catherine Hospital, was presented with the 2018 Nursing/Caregiver Excellence Award.
A total of 16 nurses at St. Catherine were recognized during National Nurses Week, though Arredondo was chosen for the top honor.
“Nursing is a respected, highly-rated profession,” said Paula Swenson, vice president patient care services and chief nursing officer. “As medical technology has expanded, so too have the roles of nurses over the years. Our nurses do amazing things each and every day. It’s important to recognize them for their outstanding contributions to provide extraordinary care to our patients.”
Arredondo, a critical care nurse in the Intensive Care Unit for six years, began her healthcare career as a nurse fellow at St. Catherine Hospital. St. Catherine is part of Community Healthcare System.
“She takes charge of the unit when necessary and is always willing to help her co-workers,” said ICU charge nurse Janee Babbit.
