HAMMOND — South Shore Sports Promotions, in collaboration with Valparaiso University’s Athletic Department, are among the finalists bidding for the 2015 through 2018 NCAA Woman’s Bowling Championships. The bid was submitted with Olympia Lanes in Hammond as the host bowling facility for the annual tournament.

According to Ryan Tressel, NCAA assistant director, championships and alliances, the championship will be awarded on a yearly basis depending on the priorities set by the six person committee.

Mark LaBarbera, director of athletics for Valparaiso University, believes Northwest Indiana will provide the NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship committee with what they’re looking for in a tournament location. “Northwest Indiana is a great bowling community; there is a lot of interest in it. It’s a great location, a good facility in Hammond. There are quality hotels and restaurants and a lot of things for the teams to do when they’re not competing,” said LaBarbera.
