Sales of existing homes in Northwest Indiana have solid showing in November

Sales of existing homes in Northwest Indiana in November were up 3.5 percent when compared to the same month a year ago.

Sales of existing homes in Northwest Indiana in November were up 3.5 percent when compared to the same month a year ago.  

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors, which represents Jasper, Lake, La Porte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Starke counties, reported 857 closed sales in November, up from 828 closed sales reported in November 2017.

In October, closed sales in the Region totaled 1,003, which was up from 976 from closed sales recorded in October 2017. Year-to-date closed sales through November totaled 10,069, which was up 2.1 percent from the 9,860 sales logged during the same time period last year.

Median sale prices of homes in November were up 3.3 percent when compared to the same month last year. The median price of homes sold in November was $161,000, up from $155,798 logged in November 2017.

The average sale price for homes across the Region in November was $192,569, up 5.5 percent from $182,491 when compared to November 2017. Sellers on average received 95.4 percent of their original list price, a 0.5 percent increase from 94.9 percent recorded in November 2017.

Available homes on the market continues to fall. The association reported there were 3,294 homes available for sale in November, down 8.1 percent from 3,585 available homes in November 2017.

New listings were down in November. A total of 879 new listings were logged for the month, down 6.4 percent from 939 new listings in November 2017.

Year-to-date new listings through November totaled 13,431, down 2.4 percent from 13,764 new listings recorded between January and November last year.
