Saint Joseph’s College Alumni Project Is a TIME Best Invention

TIME magazine released its “25 Best Inventions of 2014” list, which includes inventions that “make the world better, smarter, and—in some cases—a little more fun.” Saint Joseph’s College (in Rensselaer, Ind.) Class of 1993 graduates and former basketball players Mike Crowley and Mark Davisson’s basketball product called “94Fifty,” which is sold by InfoMotion, made this year’s list.

For athletes trying to improve their game, data is critical, which is why professional basketball players use high-tech equipment. 94Fifty is designed to offer the same data and perks to nonprofessional athletes.

Crowley and Davisson’s product looks like a basketball; however, it is embedded with nine sensors and a Bluetooth chip that sends performance data to the 94Fifty Basketball App, a available for iPhones and Androids. From the app, players can see the arc of their shot, their shot release speed, dribble intensity, dribble speed, and shot backspin.
