Purdue Professors Elected as Fellows

WEST LAFAYETTE  — Three Purdue University professors have been awarded the distinction of fellow from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world's largest general scientific society.

The distinction recognizes their notable work to advance science or its applications, and fellows are elected by peer members. The association will present 388 new fellows with the award on Feb. 15 during the association's annual meeting in Chicago.

The fellows from Purdue are:

* Robert L. Geahlen, distinguished professor of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology, for distinguished contributions to the field of receptor signaling, particularly for the discovery of Syk and understanding its central role in B cell signaling.

* Ananth Grama, professor of computer science, for distinguished contributions to the field of high-performance computing and computational sciences, particularly for system level modeling of biological processes.

* Jeffrey R. Lucas, professor of biological sciences, for distinguished contributions to animal behavior, optimality modeling, and animal communication, particularly in relation to the adaptive and mechanistic aspects of hearing in birds.
