WEST LAFAYETTE – Purdue Extension and the Purdue University Department of Agricultural Economics offers workshop on family business management to help family businesses manage the intricacies of their operations.
“Keeping the Business in Your Family” will be March 3-4 on the Purdue campus.
The workshop will provide information on an array of topics related to family business management, including communication, developing a shared vision, assessing resources, legal matters and family succession.
“Managing a family business poses unique challenges, and it's important to look to the future,” said Maria Marshall, a Purdue agricultural economist and director of the Purdue Initiative for Family Firms. “One area to focus on is the development of a son or daughter or partner as a future manager of your business. This workshop focuses on this as well as a wide range of other issues that come into play when creating a solid succession plan.”
Family businesses play an important role in the economy, particularly in the agriculture sector where families own the vast majority of farms. The workshop is intended to help these families handle the challenges that are unique to their businesses.
