HAMMOND – Purdue University Calumet has been certified as a StormReady University. The designation means PUC has increased preparedness for extreme weather, improved safety programs and strong line of communication between the university and the National Weather Service.

The certification also included training for university staff as basic storm spotters.

“Becoming a StormReady University increases our value to the university community and increases the services we offer Hammond residents,” said Anthony Martin Sr., chief of police for Purdue Calumet.

The only other StormReady Universities in Indiana are Purdue in West Lafayette and Valparaiso University.
