HAMMOND – The Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana has received a $10,000 donation from Praxair, Inc. to help fund the purchase and redevelopment of teacher professional development programs as well as the purchase of supplies for the upcoming space adventure summer camp series.

“Our goal is to merge the power of imagination with the excitement of discovery,” said Rebecca Manis, executive director of the Challenger Learning Center.

“Praxair’s donation will help us continue to provide relevant, current and educational opportunities to students and teachers. Our programs and staff are a resource for area teachers and help to inspire our future workforce to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering – the fields that are critical for the success of our country,” said Manis.

The Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana is the space science education center located on the campus of Purdue University Calumet. It is licensed by Challenger Center for Space Science Education headquartered in metropolitan Washington, D.C.  The Challenger Learning Centers were conceptualized days after the Challenger accident in 1986.  The network of centers function as a living memorial that continues the Challenger crew and first Teacher In Space, Christa McAuliffe’s educational mission.
