Potash to invest $64 million in Hammond

HAMMOND – Potash Corp. has confirmed plans that it will open a rail transfer facility at the Gibson Yard in Hammond.

The company will invest $64 million in the project that will include a 136,000 square foot building. An addition $9 million investment will come from the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad and $5 million from the city for demolition and other infrastructure work.

During construction, the project will employ 225 workers. When the transfer site opens, it will have 60 employees.

Potash, based in Saskatoon, Canada, is one of the world’s largest producers of fertilizer.
