Kari Pfau Estes of Jeffersonville has been appointed to the Ports of Indiana Commission.

Estes’s family business, George Pfau Son’s Co., was founded in 1869 and is in its fifth generation of family leadership, according to a statement from the office of Gov. Eric Holcomb.

Estes earned her bachelor’s degree from Miami University and masters and doctorate degrees of physical therapy from Northwestern University. Estes, whose term expires in 2020, replaces Christine Keck on the commission.

Indiana has three ports, with locations in Jeffersonville, Mount Vernon and Burns Harbor/Portage, which handle cargo for all 50 states and more than 30 countries. The Ports of Indiana operates approximately 2,800 acres along Indiana’s navigable waterways and contributes more than $7.8 billion annually to the state's economy, supporting nearly 60,000 jobs.
