PNC hosts annual King Day celebration

WESTVILLE – Purdue University North Central will host its 17th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 16, in the Library-Student-Faculty Building cafeteria.

The public event begins with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. with a program to start at 8 a.m.

Guest speaker is Dr. Garrard McClendon, an Emmy award-winning talk show host, professor and author. He will speak about his personal story and how he incorporates Martin Luther King Jr.’s message of inclusiveness and non-violence into his life.

A native of Northwest Indiana, McClendon has hosted The McClendon Report TV and radio shows for Comcast and WVON-AM 1690, along with Garrard McClendon Live on CLTV in Chicago and Off 63rd with Garrard McClendon on WYCC PBS Chicago. He owns McClendon Report Media and is the author of “Ax or Ask?: The African American Gide to Better English.”

The Rev. Steve Laue, director of spiritual care and chaplaincy services at IU LaPorte Hospital, will present the multimedia presentation, “King’s Road,” profiling Dr. King’s life. Those attending the breakfast are asked to bring a non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Salvation Army.
