HAMMOND – The South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail will open its expo “Region United, Nation Divided: Civil War in the South Shore” beginning April 5 at the Indiana Welcome Center.

The four-week exhibit will showcase the region’s contributions to our nation’s bloodiest war through a series of special events and exhibits as it commemorates the Civil War’s 150th anniversary of its third year.
In addition to special exhibits, photographs and artifacts, the expo will tell the story of Civil War soldiers through live demonstrations by re-enactors each weekend throughout April, as well as on Wednesday, May 1. Visitors will learn about drilling, camp life and the 20th Indiana Regiment’s role in the Civil War from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 6, 7, 13, 20, 27, and 28, and from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on May 1

The South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail is a collection of the last known resting places, monuments, architectural icons and sites with Civil War ties that are related to the brave men and women from the region who sacrificed during the most pivotal period in our nation’s history.
