Northwest Indiana home sales remain strong in April

GNIAR logoSales of existing homes in the greater Northwest Indiana region were up 7.3 percent in April when compared to the same month a year ago.

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Relators reports 927 closed sales were recorded in April, up from 864 in April 2017. The association’s data includes Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Starke counties.

Year-to-date home sales remain ahead of last year’s pace. A total of 2,876 sales closed through the end of April, up from 2,801 logged in April 2017.

New listings totaled 1,335 at the end of April, the association reported. That’s a 1.2 percent increase from April 2017.

Available homes on the market through the end of April totaled 3,283, down 15.9 percent from April 2017.

Sellers today likely want to capitalize on higher sale prices driven by low inventory. The median sales price of homes in April was $161,000, up 7.6 percent from $149,650 a year ago.

The association said the average sale price for a home in the Region in April was $183,657, up 9.5 percent from $167,760 a year ago.
