NIPSCO presents first Luminary Awards

MERRILLVILLE – Northern Indiana Public Service Company has named the recipients of its first Luminary Awards, which were created as part of the utility’s 100th anniversary. The awards are given to those who have acted with integrity, faith and confidence on behalf of the community.

The award includes a $1,000 donation to the charity of the winner’s choice.

Community Leadership was given to retired state Rep. Chester Dobis for his 42 years of public service; Emergency Response was given to retired South Bend Fire Chief Howard Buchanon for his 38 years of service to the city; Education was given to Purdue University North Central Chancellor James Dworkin; and Environmental Stewardship was given to Lake Station Mayor Keith Solderquist for championing the use of renewable energy.
