WEST LAFAYETTE – A new Purdue University Extension program will equip farmers with the tools they need to develop a nutrient management plan for their operations.
“4R 4 Producers” will be held 5-8 p.m. on March 9 at The Andersons, located at 4743 Country Road 28 in Waterloo, Indiana.
“We will introduce the concept of the 4R Program which is being implemented on over 1 million acres across Ohio and Michigan,” said Crystal Van Pelt, agriculture and natural resources extension educator for Steuben County Extension.
4R stands for right source, right rate, right time and right place. The program promotes management practices that will achieve cropping system goals while minimizing field nutrient loss and maximizing crop uptake.
The program will feature speakers Greg Kneubuhler, independent agriculture consultant, and James Camberato, Purdue University soil fertility specialist.
Participants will work on case studies and develop nutrient management plans based on mock soil and manure analysis, field history and Purdue fertility recommendations provided at the program.
