Michigan City officials and representatives with Blue Chip Casino, Hotel and Spa will kick off construction of its latest expansion project on Sept. 20
The Michigan City casino is expanding its meeting and event space by nearly 15,000 square feet, which will expand its available space to rent to more than 45,000 square feet. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2019.
Blue Chip currently offers nearly 31,000 square feet of event and meeting space, including the 15,000-square-foot Stardust Event Center. The expansion will add another 14,800 square feet of event space, including a new 11,000-square-foot ballroom, which can be divided into six smaller rooms and 3,800 square feet of pre-function space.
The expansion at Blue Chip is the latest investment by casino owner Boyd Gaming. Since 2006, Boyd Gaming has added a new casino facility, a 302-room hotel tower, the Stardust Events Center, a 10,000-square-foot spa, salon and fitness center, and two new restaurants. Boyd Gaming in 2016 completed an upgrade and redesign of Blue Chip’s original 184-room hotel tower.
Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming operates of 24 gaming properties across Nevada, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
