Methodist Hospitals recently was awarded Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from the American College of Cardiology.

The accreditation recognizes Methodist Hospitals for its expertise and commitment in treating patients in its cardiac cath lab including diagnostic catheterizations and PCI or coronary angioplasty procedures.

“Methodist Hospitals has demonstrated its commitment to providing Northwest Indiana with excellent heart care,” said Dr. Phillip Levy, chair of the ACC accreditation management board. “ACC accreditation services is proud to award Methodist Hospitals with Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI.”

Hospitals receiving the accreditation with PCI must take part in a multi-faceted clinical process that involve completing a gap analysis; examining variances of care; developing an action plan; a rigorous onsite review; and monitoring for sustained success. It also involves showing improved methods and strategies of caring for patients include streamlining processes, implementing guidelines and standards, and adopting best practices in the care of cath lab patients.

Facilities that achieve accreditation meet or exceed an array of stringent criteria and have organized a team of doctors, nurses, clinicians, and other administrative staff that earnestly support the efforts leading to improved patient outcomes, according to Methodist Hospitals.

Methodist Hospitals operates two full-service acute care facilities in Gary and Merrillville.
