BURNS HARBOR – John D. Mengel has been named vice president and general manager at ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor, and John J. Battisti as chief operating officer of plate operations.
Mengel will be in charge of the flat carbon steelmaking operations in Burns Harbor and in Columbus, Ohio. Mengel, who lives in Long Beach, Ind., joined the company in 1976 when it was known as Bethlehem Steel. He replaces Madhu Ranade who retired after 35 years of service.
Battisti, of Valparaiso, will oversee plate operations in Burns Harbor and Gary and two plants in Pennsylvania. Battisti joined the company 35 years ago when it was known as Bethlehem Steel.
