MCEDC honors companies for investment

MICHIGAN CITY – The Michigan City Economic Development Corp. held its 2012 Business Investment Awards Celebration recently at Blue Chip Casino Hotel and Spa. The event is held every two years to recognize local companies who have made substantial financial investments the previous two years.

“Staying in business is one of the greatest accomplishments most companies can claim and we wanted to recognize those Michigan City area businesses that have met that challenge,” said Kevin Kieft, executive director.

Companies recognized were Fas-Pak, Hearthside Food Solutions, KTR Corp., Michigan City Paper Box Co., Sound Technologies, Sullair Corp., Vanair, Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City, IU Health LaPorte Hospital, Brown Mackie College and Ivy Tech Community College.

Guest speaker was Dag Kittlaus, co-founder and CEO of Siri, the personal voice recognition application for the iPhone 4S. He is a graduate of Michigan City Elston High School.
