Porter County’s Aging and Community Services’ ramp program was one of dozens across the Region that got a little extra help during the United Way’s annual Day of Caring on Aug. 9.

Volunteers from Valparaiso-based Task force Tips for its 10th consecutive year, assisted Porter County Aging and Community Services on a ramp rehabilitation project.

“We absolutely could not accomplish what we do without our volunteers,” said PCACS Executive Director Bruce Lindner. “We are honored that the TFT team has found value in being such a vital component of our ramp program and has selected our project to work on for so many years.”

Task Force Tips volunteers rehabilitated an old ramp which needed updating. The team re-decked the ramp and widened its front stairs.

“We’re re-decking and making the transition from the house easier as they had to pick up the wheelchair,” said Kim Hale with Task Force Tips. Hale was joined by other company employees Will Foy, Mike Hammonds, Mike Hartman, Matt LaMotte, Rob Cole and Bill Wilfinger.

The PCACS ramp program is in place for those who have had surgery, face an illness or other challenges that affect their mobility.

The United Way's annual Day of Caring in Northwest Indiana this year drew 570 volunteers who completed 68 projects for community groups around Northwest Indiana.
