HAMMOND — Members of the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) recently donated time and labor to the rebuilding of the Hammond Chiefs dugout, which was damaged by a storm in the summer of 2013. The dugout is located at Riverside Park in Hammond.

The Hammond Chiefs contacted John Winarski, IKORCC Business Representative, with the hopes that the Carpenters Union could help rebuild the dugout. Six Carpenters from the Local 599 MAC Committee assessed the project and agreed to donate the labor that went into rebuilding the dugout. Throughout the duration of the project, Carpenters formed the dugout foundation, built the structure and framed and sheeted the roof.

“Like the IKORCC, the Hammond Chiefs have been a long-standing organization in our community,” Winarski commented. “Some of our members have children who play for the Chiefs, so this was a very special project for us. We didn’t hesitate when they asked for our help, and it’s so great to see the kids utilizing the dugout during practice and at their home games.”
