MICHIGAN CITY – The 4th annual Great Lakes Superboat Grand Prix Aug. 2-5 resulted in an infusion of more than $7 million into the Michigan City and La Porte County economy.
The LaPorte County Convention and Visitors Bureau said the offshore powerboat race attracted 120,000 visitors and contributed $7.2 million into the local economy.

Certec, Inc., the Versailles, Ky., company used by the CVB to conduct economic impact studies, said visitors came from nine states and Canada.

Jack Arnett, executive director of the LaPorte County CVB, said the numbers show what an important role the event plays in the community.

The grand prix generated $2 million in taxes.
