INDIANAPOLIS — Labor Fest’s debut celebration brought near-record crowds to downtown, according to attendance numbers released today by the Central Indiana Labor Council.
More than 10,000 people gathered on Georgia Street on Saturday, Aug. 31 – the largest attendance at a Georgia Street event since Super Bowl 2012. Guests kicked off the Labor Day weekend with a day of free concerts and family entertainment. Food and drinks were provided by Murphy’s Steakhouse, and unions ranging from postal service workers to skilled trade laborers shared hands-on activities with attendees.
The event – a collaboration between Clear Channel Communications and the Central Indiana Labor Council – also marked a new Indianapolis tradition. Labor Fest was held in place of downtown’s annual Labor Day Parade.
