For the second consecutive year, Kids Caring for the Community, an elementary school community service program led by the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC), was held at local elementary schools. By doing a variety of service projects, participating schools earn a chance to enter a drawing to receive a monetary award.

“Kids Caring for the community is really a labor of love and we are thrilled that it has grown into a collaboration between our Local Union 1005 in Hobart, Local Union 599 in Hammond, Local Union 1485 in La Porte, Millwrights Local Union 1076 and U.S. Representative Pete Visclosky’s office,” said Dale Newlin, IKORCC Senior Representative. “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the joy on the kids’ faces when they learn how their school will spend the money then won.”

This quarter’s winning schools include John Wood Elementary School in Merrillville, Memorial Elementary School in Valparaiso, Porter Lakes Elementary School in Hebron and Ridge View Elementary School in Hobart.
