Jobless rates fall in September in many of Indiana’s metro areas

Jobs 2Jobless rates in many of the state’s metropolitan areas saw a decrease in September from August.

The jobless rate for the Gary metro area was 4.1 percent, down from 4.8 percent in August and down from 4.5 percent in September 2017, according to the latest figures released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

In the Elkhart-Goshen metro area, the jobless rate for September was 2.4 percent, down from 2.9 percent in August but up from 2.3 percent where it was in September 2017.

Michigan City-La Porte area unemployment rate for September was 3.8 percent, down from 4.5 percent in August and down from 3.9 percent in September 2017.

The South Bend-Mishawaka jobless rate in September was 3.2 percent, down from 4 percent in August and down from September 2017’s jobless rate of 3.9 percent.

The state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate for September was 3.5 percent, which was unchanged from August and unchanged from September 2017. The U.S. jobless rate in September was 3.7 percent, which was down from 3.9 percent in August and down from 4.2 percent in September 2017.
