Ivy Tech Community College is launching a pharmacy technician certification this fall at its Lake County campus in Crown Point.

Courses will include medical terminology, essentials of anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, customer service, pharmacy tech concepts and a seminar course. Students will receive hands-on experience in a health care setting, along with time in a laboratory and classroom.

“Employers looking for pharmacy techs will prefer someone who has the credentials,” Program Chair Jodi Wilkes said in a press release. “Students who complete the program and become a certified pharmacy technician will have a variety of employment options, earn higher wages and have greater job stability. Work as a certified technician is rewarding and allows for quality patient care.”

Pharmacy technicians work in long-term care facilities, mail-order pharmacies, specialty compounding pharmacies, retail settings and call centers, among other options.

Ivy Tech Community College, which was founded in 1963, has 43 locations throughout Indiana and more than 500 classes online. In the 2022-2023 school year, 177,115 students were served.
