Ivy Tech Lake County honors Powers Health, alumna

Ivy Tech Community College’s Lake County campus was one of 19 that honored alumni and benefactors at a ceremony in Indianapolis.

Each campus chose recipients for Distinguished Alumnus and Benefactor Awards.

“Our distinguished alumni and benefactors embody Ivy Tech’s mission to transform lives and strengthen Indiana’s economy,” said Sue Ellspermann, president of Ivy Tech, in a press release. “Through their time, talent, treasure and testimony, individuals honored this year made significant contributions to the betterment of lives and their communities.”

Rebekah Arevalo was honored with Lake County's Distinguished Alumni Award. She is Valparaiso University’s assistant vice president for Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives, chief of staff and board liaison.

At Ivy Tech Lake County, she earned an associate degree and was vice president of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Powers Health, which recently changed its name from Community Healthcare System, earned the Benefactor Award.

The health system, with locations throughout Northwest Indiana, was honored for supporting the Ivy Tech Foundation's goal of supporting students, and as a “a friend of the Lake County campus for more than 21 years.” It also contributes to the Chancellors’ Scholarship event and Meet the Need initiative for students.
