INDIANAPOLIS – More students across Indiana are taking advantage of Ivy Tech Community College’s dual-credit enrollment program.
The college reports enrollment in the program has grown 64 percent since it was launched in 2012. Statewide, a total of 61,472 high school students earned Ivy Tech dual credit in the 2017-18 school year, a 4.2 percent increase from the previous academic year.
Ivy Tech has dual-credit partnerships with more than 95 percent of public high schools in Indiana. This includes more than 400 high schools and career centers which participate in the program.
“By partnering with high schools and career centers across the state, we are preparing students to move quickly into careers in high-demand fields in Indiana or accelerating a four-year degree, depending on which path they choose,” said Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann. “Essentially, we are providing post-secondary education and training to Indiana’s future workforce while they are still in high school.”
She said students in the program are in better position to graduate college with less debt, in less time, and towards prosperous careers.
Ivy Tech’s dual-credit program is free to students and is the only no-cost option in the state, according to the college. During the 2017-18 year, the program saved families $54.9 million in college tuition costs, and a record number of students are on pace to earn an estimated 398,344 college credits.
