KNOX – Responding to a need in the Emergency Department of Indiana University Health Starke Hospital, the Starke County Chapter of Tri Kappa recently donated sweatshirts and sweatpants for use by sexual assault victims.

Because of the need to hold clothing worn for evidence in court cases, the victims very often need garments to wear when returning home. Receiving the sweats was Nikkole Frazier, an ED nurse and sexual assault nursing examiner, whose job it is to collect evidence and correctly document what is found for court cases.

“This is such a wonderful gift to our department,” said Frazier. It is an outpouring of compassion these women have for the victims of this terrible crime.”

The donation was made by Sandy Hansen, who is a Tri Kappa member as well as a Community Board member of IU Health Starke Hospital. “This is part of our organization’s mission,” said Hansen. “Tri Kappa focuses on charity, culture and education and we were more than happy to be able to assist in this request.”
