IU Health LaPorte offers scholarships

LAPORTE – Since 1983, Indiana University Health LaPorte Hospital, the LaPorte Hospital Foundation and the LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary have sponsored scholarships to provide financial assistance to students pursuing healthcare careers. Through the combined efforts, more than $160,000 was distributed to 52 students in 2012.

The following Auxiliary scholarships are available in 2013:

$750 Auxiliary Scholarships are available to first-time applicants. Renewals of $1,000 are available for students applying for second year, based on satisfactory academic progress and need.

Friends of Auxiliary will offer a $750 scholarship and the Harold and Marcy Bowen Scholarship will award $750.

The Foundation offers the following scholarships:

The Elizabeth and Eugene Siefker Scholarship provides $500 to students enrolled in a healthcare program; the Foundation Scholarships are available to undergraduate juniors, seniors or fifth-year students in degrees requiring five years of study in any healthcare program; the Hrankja Scholarship is available to students entering their junior or senior year of a bachelor of nursing program; the Magnuson Scholarship is available to IU Health LaPorte Hospital employees seeking an advanced degree in a healthcare program; and the Richard M. Sisson Scholarship awards $1,000 to students enrolled in a nursing program.

Students eligible for all scholarships must be one a resident of the IU Health La Porte and Starke hospitals service area, which includes La Porte and Starke counties as well as eastern Porter County, northern Pulaski County, Marshall County, northwest Kosciusko County, western St. Joseph County and southwest Berrien County, Michigan; a current employee or child of an employee of IU Health La Porte or Starke hospitals, IU Health La Porte Physicians or IU Health Lakeshore Surgicare; a LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary member or volunteer.
