SOUTH BEND – Inovateus Solar of South Bend has signed a contract with General Electric’s Energy Industrial Solutions to build solar carports with electric vehicle chargers for the growing electric vehicle market.
The project is designed to demonstrate the equipment made by GE and how it can be used to charge electric vehicles. The prototype calls for a station producing 100 kilowatt hours of electricity, enough to charge 20 electric cars and light the parking lot.
T.J. Kanczuzwski, president of Inovateus Solar, said his company has 25 employees but that could double in the next few months as the partnership with GE takes off.
