Valparaiso-based HealthLinc was awarded $500,000 in funding to improve patient access to cancer care.

The federal grant comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The funding is through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Accelerating Cancer Screening program.

HealthLinc will use the funds to partner with National Cancer Institute-Designated Cancer Centers to expedite patient access to cancer care. The Accelerated Cancer Screening program aims to improve access to cancer screenings and treatments in underserved areas.

“Congratulations to HealthLinc on this outstanding achievement to improve early cancer detection and ensure prevention and screening services are available for communities across our Region,” Rep. Frank Mrvan said in a press release.

Mrvan vowed to continue supporting access to affordable health care services to improve the quality of life for everyone in the Region.

The collaboration marks a step forward in HealthLinc’s mission. The organization is working to improve patient access to critical cancer care and treatment in underserved communities.

“By improving access to life-saving cancer screenings, we are not only addressing a crucial health care gap; we are giving hope and a fighting chance to those who need it most,” said Melissa Mitchell, HealthLinc CEO.

HealthLinc is a not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center. It offers medical, dental and behavioral health services to people of all ages, regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. HealthLinc has clinics across northern Indiana.
