Hammond’s chief legal officer Kristina Kantar appointed to Lake County Superior Court

Kristina Kantar, corporation counsel for the city of Hammond, was appointed by Gov. Eric Holcomb to the Lake County Superior Court.

Kantar takes over for Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider who retired in February.

Kantar was among three finalists selected by the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission.

Kantar served as the corporation counsel for the City of Hammond since 2004. She also has served as judge of the Lake Station City Court and engaged in private practice.

Prior to becoming the chief legal officer for Hammond, Kantar served as a juvenile court referee and as a deputy prosecutor.

Kantar earned a Bachelor of Science degree from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill. and her law degree from Drake University Law School in Des Moines.

Kantar will be sworn in as the judge of the Lake County Superior Court at a later date.
