GRIFFITH – The Griffith-Merrillville Airport has received a $63,900 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to help it support planning and development efforts.

U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Merrillville, made the announcement and said the grant will help in construction of a parallel taxiway and improve drainage at the airport.

The airport has two 4,900-foot runways. In 2011, it reported 32,417 landings and takeoffs.
