SOUTH BEND – The F. Jay Nimtz Exemplary Public Service Award has been presented to Jeff Gibney, executive director of the South Bend Department of Community and Economic Development.

The award is named for the late F. Jay Nimtz, a former U.S. Congressman, president of the South Bend Redevelopment Commission, attorney and preservationist.

Gibney was recognized for his commitment to stabilizing, enhancing and empowering South Bend neighborhoods. For more than 30 years at the South Bend Heritage Foundation, and since 2007 as director of the city’s Community and Economic Development, Gibney has brought new ideas, investment and energy to South Bend.

“This award reflects not only Jeff’s years of commitment to South Bend, but also the personal and professional relationship that he had with the late F. Jay Nimtz,” said Mayor Steve Luecke. “I can’t think of anyone more influential in transforming neighborhoods and the face of South Bend.”
