AARP selected Mattie Perry-Lightfoot as its 2023 Indiana Andrus Award for Community Service honoree.
The nonprofit for people older than 50 selected Perry-Lightfoot for her service to the Northwest Indiana community.
“Mattie does an incredible job leading one of our most active volunteer teams,” said Emily Gorman, AARP Indiana director of outreach, in a press release. “She cares so much and is a true servant leader.”
Perry-Lightfoot has served on AARP’s volunteer executive council for almost six years, representing the organization's Gary volunteer team.
She received the award during a ceremony in October.
“This award acts as a symbol to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” AARP Indiana State Director Sarah Waddle said. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve.”
