GARY – At Gary City Hall, Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson swore in 10 new officers bringing the force up to a total of 232 officers. Scores of family and friends crowded into the Gary Room to show their support.

Police Chief Wade Ingram and his command staff were there to welcome the officers to the force.  After going through more aggressive training, the recruits are expected to hit the streets in early spring.

In separate news, the Gary Police Department will host another Gun Buy Back on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 6 local churches from 8:00a.m. – 4:00p.m. In addition to receiving a Wal-Mart gift card for turning in weapons, the first 50 people will receive a GED testing voucher.  For more information, call (219) 881-1201.
