Deborah Way recently was appointed education and outreach coordinator at the Gabis Arboretum at Purdue University Northwest.
Way will be responsible for coordinating the arboretum’s youth and adult public education programs as well as outreach efforts.
Way most recently worked for the Iron Oaks Environmental Learning Center in Illinois where she directed a multi-season youth nature camp and served as a naturalist.
In 2017, Way became a certified master naturalist through the Illinois Extension and has been an active volunteer with the Cook County Forest Preserve in recent years.
Way has taught elementary school and also has led retreats and wellness programs at various nature-oriented centers in Illinois and Indiana.
Gabis Arboretum at Purdue University Northwest is a 300-acre, oak preserve of formal gardens, woodlands, wetlands, prairies and hiking trails located near Valparaiso. It became part of PNW in 2018 and is open year-round.
