VALPARAISO — Security professionals, businesses and students in areas such as criminal justice, cybersecurity and public safety are invited to attend a free expo spotlighting the latest innovations in security technology.
Various companies will exhibit products and make presentations on those products. The expo will take place Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ivy Tech Community College, 3100 Ivy Tech Dr., Valparaiso.
The event is sponsored by David Lain Consulting, BluTek Solutions and Ivy Tech.
“We are excited to have the most innovative security tech companies in the nation coming to Ivy Tech,” Lain, who runs a security technology consulting firm and who is the former Porter County sheriff, said. “This is their first appearance anywhere in the Midwest, so the ability to showcase the “Best-of-the-Best” here highlights Ivy Tech’s commitment to leadership in technology.”
Lunch is included for the professionals attending, and they also will be automatically entered to win a unique relic from the John Dillinger saga: a shadowbox containing a cartridge fired by the Tommy gun used by the infamous criminal. Advance registration for professionals is requested by Sept. 2 by e-mailing dave@sherifflain.com. There is no need for students to register.
Products and businesses to be featured include the ALTA balloon, which will offer a 400-foot birds-eye view of the campus; BioTools, which will analyze contents of plastic bags and of bottles in less than 60 seconds using only laser light; and SelectDNA, which is invisible under normal light but which makes objects and people shine blue under UV rays, ensuring positive identification.
Other featured technology will include Social Sentinel, which turns social media threats into automated alerts for school, police and corporate leaders; Offsite Vision, a suite of security products that wirelessly monitors people, tracks products, alerts emergency responders and secures perimeters; and Ten8Tech, an online reporting system for non-emergency police reports.
Representatives from L.E.A.D., a nonprofit organization providing information on public safety grants, also will be at the expo.
