December jobless rates drop in several Northern Indiana metro areas

Unemployment rates in several Northern Indiana metro areas fell in December when compared to November.

The December jobless rate in the Elkhart-Goshen area was 0.9%, down from 1.5% in November and down from 3.5% in December 2020, according to data from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

In the Gary area, December’s jobless rate was 2.1%, down from 3.2% in November and down from 6.3% in December 2020.

The Michigan City-La Porte area jobless rate was 1.9% in December, down from 2.9% in November and down from 3.9% in December 2020.

In the South Bend-Mishawaka area, the December jobless rate was 1.8%, down from 2.5% in November and down from 5.4% in December 2020.

Indiana’s December jobless rate was 2.7%, down from 3% in November. The state’s labor force in December was 3,277,064 with 3,234,050 employed and 43,014 unemployed.
