HAMMOND South Shore Clean Cities, BP Oil Company and several environmental groups will host an informational meeting about the Cleaner Air through Diesel Emission Reductions grant program on Thursday, May 23, at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond.

From 9 until 11 a.m., attendees will learn about $450,000 in available funds to support qualified projects submitted by Lake County municipalities, schools and not-for-profit hospitals. The grant program is targeted at fleets for diesel emissions reduction projects. Attendees will learn what the program is, how the technology works, if they would qualify and will be given an overview of the request for proposal process.

Additionally, South Shore Clean Cities hopes to gather feedback from potential program applicants regarding the match between their needs, the Diesel Emissions Reduction Program structure and the best means to maximize air quality improvement.

South Shore Clean Cities is a government and industry partnership that promotes the use of clean fuels and clean vehicle technologies. Their objectives are to improve the air quality in Northwest Indiana, develop regional economic opportunities and reduce the use of imported oil.
