CHICAGO – On Tuesday, August 18th, the Chicago Yacht Club will host more than 60 blind or visually impaired guests from The Chicago Lighthouse for the Power Fleet Cruise for the Visually Impaired, co-sponsored by Wintrust.

The event will kick off at 11:30 a.m. with lunch on the patio at Monroe Station located at 400 E. Monroe St. in Chicago. After lunch, a parade of more than a dozen powerboats, volunteered by Chicago Yacht Club members, will set off south through Monroe Harbor for Adler Planetarium. The group will then travel north past Navy Pier before returning to the club at 2:00 p.m.

“Our guests are totally immersed in our love of boating by feeling the wind on their face and fully sensing every aspect of the movement of the boat,” says Nick Berberian, Power Fleet Chairman and Treasurer of Chicago Yacht Club. “The ear-to-ear smiles on their faces say it all.”

The Chicago Lighthouse has served people who are blind or visually impaired since 1906.  Among its 28 innovative programs and services are a comprehensive low vision care clinic, employment assistance and job training, a school, a clock factory, legal clinic, and radio station.
