GRIFFITH – Lake Area United Way has, for the first time, been named a 4-Star Charity by Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest charity watchdog evaluator.

“In the current economic environment, it’s critical our supports and the community trust that we’re investing donor contributions wisely to support children, youth and families,” said Jeremy Miller, chair of the LAUW’s board.

Miller is regional vice president for Centier Bank and said increased scrutiny over transparency and accountability in this year’s Charity Navigator evaluation system resulted in the elevation of United Way’s rating from three to four stars. The top designation recognizes nonprofit organizations for sound fiscal management
