WEST LAFAYETTE – The Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University has awarded more than $10,000 to six Indiana student veterans’ organizations that are helping student service members and veterans.

The grants range from $1,000 to $2,000 and are to help strengthen student veteran organizations.

Among new and emerging student veteran organizations, the top grant of $2,000 was given to Indiana University South Bend. Also receiving $2,000 grants were Ivy Tech-Wabash Valley and Ball State University. Ivy Tech-Lafayette received $1,400 and IUPUI received $1,000.

“There is a need for student help because the campus can be a bit overwhelming at first,” said Jason Wright, an IUSB student and Army veteran. “This is where our SVO teams come into action. We will be able to fund a Veterans Day dinner and thank-you celebration … and have more meetings and social functions to bring the veterans together.
